Transportation, from HBLR to PATH

ree

Jersey City, as part of the Greater New York City Metropolitan Area is connected to the 'Big Apple' on the east across Hudson River via the famous Holland Tunnel. There are technically 3 ways to reach Manhattan from Jersey City, an average distance of 8.5 miles via car where you can turn on the GPS and proceed to cross the Holland Tunnel, Via Ferry (New York Waterway) where you can choose the Brookfield Place / Jersey City station and will finish your ride at the Paulus Hook / Manhattan or via PATH Train from Exchange Place (more accessible from your current location) or Journal Square to World Trade Center Station in NYC.

Getting Around Jersey City

While, within the Jersey City area you have 2 option (excluding Taxis and Uber / Lyft) to travel on public transportations: There are the buses and the Light Rails, one of the most important is the Hudson Bergen Light Rail (HBLR).

By Bus -  The nearest bus station from the NYhomeBnb is the Ocean Avenue @ Stegman Street, where you have to take the Inbound Bus Route 81 and stop at the Montgomery Street @ Washington Street (last station) in downtown Jersey City and than walk for a few meters and you can reach the Exchange Place if you want to catch the train to NYC or, otherwise stop at Grant Street before if you want just to go around Jersey City. And the same route you can choose for the outbound if you consider to go around by bus.

By Train - As mentioned above, the most important Light Rail that crosses the Jersey City area in the Hudson coast is the HBLR, the street train that will bring you to 2 major destination in the north from NYhomeBnb. One of them is the Exchange Place (Downtown Jersey City) and the Terminal of the city of Hoboken. The nearest station from the NYhomeBnb is the 'Richard Street Station', at Bayside Park and recreations.

Fares - The adult one way cost for a fare on the HBLR is $2.25, while the reduce fare is $1.10. The monthly pass costs around $80.00. What is the HBLR (Light Rail Train) and how to use it While with the subway in NYC is easy to ride the trains, since once you purchase a ticket or a Metro Card you can insert the amount you want and just swipe it anytime you go in any station, things with the Light Rail Train in Jersey City are a little bit different. The Hudson-Bergen light rail system operates as a "proof-of-payment" fare collection system.  This policy requires that you have a time-stamped ticket prior to boarding a light rail car and retain your ticket until you leave the station area at your final destination. Under the proof-of-payment fare collection, tickets will not be collected. Passengers should be prepared to show a time-stamped ticket or a monthly pass to a Fare Enforcement Officer if requested. If you do not have a stamped ticket, you will be subject to fines up to $100.

Purchase a ticket → Buy It: You must have a time-stamped ticket prior to boarding Hudson-Bergen Light Rail cars and to enter Pre-Paid Fare Zones on platforms. Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) are located near entrances or on platforms at each station. Information on purchasing and time-stamping tickets is displayed on TVMs. For additional ticketing information, please refer to the Ticket Information poster located near TVMs. (You can also download the NJ Transit Mobile Up in your mobile phone so you can buy the ticket directly from your mobile) Time-Stamp It: You must time-stamp all one-way tickets purchased from TVMs in a Validator Machine before boarding light rail cars. Monthly passes do not require validation. Validator Machines are located near TVMs at each station. To time-stamp your ticket, insert it into the Validator with the print side up and NJ TRANSIT's logo facing to the left. The machine will time stamp your ticket, validating it for a single ride in one continuous direction of travel. Ride It: Once time-stamped, each ticket is good for a single ride in one continuous direction of travel. Ride It: Once time-stamped, each ticket is good for a single ride in one continuous direction of travel. The ticket remains valid for 90 minutes from the time of stamping, allowing you to complete your journey within this time frame. Make sure to plan your trip accordingly to avoid any issues with expired tickets. After you have time stamped your ticket, simply get on board and ride. NJ TRANSIT Fare Enforcement Officers will make random ticket inspections on vehicles and at stations. Remember to keep your ticket handy

What is the PATH (Rapid train) and how to use it

Usually when people or locals refer to the PATH what they mean is the rapid subway train that rides through the H&M under the Hudson river tunnel that connects the Big Apple with 5 destination cities in New Jersey on the river coast: Newark, Harris, Hoboken, Union City and Jersey City. That's why the name PATH comes from Port Authority Trans-Hudson. What you need to know and focus on if you want to go to NYC from the NYhomeBbn and back is one and eventually only one station to don't get confused. Exchange Place Station in Downtown Jersey City. And there are 2 PATH lines that cross the Hudson from there in only one rapid ride to and from the World Trade Center on the Financial District. One is Newark - WTC and the other is Hoboken - WTC, since both of them have one stop at Exchange Place where from there you can take the HBLR light rail to Richard Street to reach your destination and vice versa. The important thing to know is that the PATH operates 24/7, but you have to be aware of the schedule especially during weekends.  The price to ride the PATH is just $2.75 one way. While you can use your NYC MTA Metro Card to ride it, unless you have the monthly unlimited ride on your MTA Metro Card the PATH will not accept it as a method of payment.   So, in order to use your Metro Card you will have to have funds on it to use if for the PATH. Otherwise you can use the different PATH ticket and card options.
